8 Types of Meditation Explained

Roger Gabriel  – Group Leader and Facilitator at The Chopra Center has created  this list of the 8 forms of meditation:

  1. Reflection or Recapitulation – highly recommended at the end of the day.
  2. Contemplation – to think about something and explore all aspects of it.
  3. Prayer Prayer is when you talk to a higher source & meditation is when you keep quiet so that higher source can speak to you.
  4. Eating – The air you breathe and the food you eat are what keep you alive, so eating should be a meditative experience.
  5. Walking Many people enjoy making their activities a meditative experience . Whether walking, dancing, bicycling, or any other activity, be fully aware of the activity.
  6. Guided – In guided meditation you are led through a series of experiences. Usually you will be instructed to see, to feel, or to be aware of different things.
  7. Breathe – The vast majority of your thoughts take you into the future or the past. Consequently, this is where you spend most of our lives. In essence, you miss the present moment entirely. Your breath can never be in the future or the past, it is always right here, in the NOW.
  8. Mantra – Mantra means vehicle or instrument of the mind and there are many different types of mantras, which can be used for a variety of purposes. An example: Dharma Hum
